The World’s Largest Underwater Restaurant Will Be Opening Soon

Advertisment

It’s safe to say that eating with the fishes is a thousand times better than sleeping with them, and if you’re going to do it, do it right eh? Thankfully, the beautiful haven of the Maldives is in the process of building the world’s largest underwater restaurant with views looking out into (and beneath) the incredible Indian Ocean!

Hurawalhi Island Resort and Spa

Based in the soon to be opened Hurawalhi Island Resort and Spa, the restaurant will be 19ft under water and offer a breathtaking panoramic scene of crystal clear waters, tropical fish and colorful coral – not to mention the more terrifying dinner guests such as sharks and stingrays! Diners will be able to access the restaurant via a 40 foot spiral staircase from the shore leading off from a specially designed cabin.

So how will the food be cooked under the sea? Well, actually, it’s only the eating that will be done beneath the surface of the water. Meals will be cooked on land and brought down to diners, allowing the whole area to be used to seat up to 24 lucky guests at a time, leaving plenty of room to avoid feeling claustrophobic!

Fancy something more than just a delicious dinner? Why not host your whole wedding in the capsule, surrounded by a view that you, nor your guests will ever forget! Whether you opt for just the ceremony, reception or even the honeymoon, your photographs are sure to be unique.

Building Underwater

Built in New Zealand and shipped to the Maldives, the restaurant structure is a colossal 59 x 16 ft and weighs in at over 450 tons! It took an entire team a whole year of logistical planning in order to prepare for the delivery. That wasn’t the end of the journey of course! Getting the huge construction to the Maldives involved a lot of teamwork – four trucks were needed to haul it along five miles of road just to get it to the vessel that finally transported it to the final destination. After a complicated construction effort featuring engineers, divers and a whole load of coordination, the restaurant took almost a year to put together.

If you needed any further reason to visit the Maldives, The Hurawalhi Island Resort and Spa is going to be home to more than just an incredible underwater eatery – boasting the best in five-star private villas, sun decks, plunge pools and breathtaking scenery. Surrounded by the stunning Indian Ocean and featuring beautiful soft white sand, the resort is going to be perfectly placed for a little slice of heaven.

Catering to those who want a luxurious holiday, indulgent and relaxing with a hint of something a little bit different, the resort is sure to have no shortage of VIP guests when it opens this summer.

This ambitious project has certainly been a long time in the making, and a whole lot of work, but when it opens later this year, alongside the Resort and Spa, it is bound to have been more than worth the wait!
